Music, for me, is transcendental.
Growing up in Chennai, India, I learnt and practised Carnatic music since a very young age. Over the course of 15 years I underwent training under various Gurus including Smt. Sugantha, Smt. Bhanumathi, Smt. Padma Veeraraghavan and Shri Subramanian, starting from the basic Sarali Varusai and gradually advancing to complex Varnams and Keerthanais. While mostly learning the vocal art form, I also underwent training for some years on the Veena, an ancient, beautiful and majestic instrument, which also happens to be the national musical instrument of India.
I furthered my learning using Shri Shivakumar Kalyanaraman's excellent online repository of Carnatic music. From this resource, I learnt the Kamalamba Navavarnams, a set of 9 grand compositions by Muthuswamy Dikshitar, rich in Samskrutam language and exquisite raagam & taalam choices. I have come to greatly enjoy the slower pace of Dikshitar kritis and he is my favorite composer.
In my singing, I focus on the traditional aspects of Carnatic music with keen emphasis on adherence to Sruthi, and strive for perfection in pronunciation of lyrics in languages including Tamizh, Samskrutam, Telugu and Hindi.
Through this website, I strive to document my journey, reach out and inspire others to enjoy and benefit from the healing magic of music!
